How to design an Instagram bio link page with Canva
Instagram bios are great for driving followers to your content — an opt-in freebie, an online course, a product, or blog posts.

Ideally, you’d want to add a link to your website.

But what if you don’t have a website? Or, what if, for some odd reason, you choose to not link your website?

Well, you can still add a link to a page that contains other links to the important stuff.

Imagine this: Perhaps you’re an author with multiple books and you want to add links to each book on your Instagram bio page. Do you need a website to do that?

Well, no.

You can just as easily create a list of links with a service like Linktree.

Or, if you have Canva, you can use a Canva template or design a page with Canva from scratch.

In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you exactly that — how to design an Instagram bio link page using Canva. To be specific, we’ll be designing this page ↓

First things first: If you do not have a Canva account, you can sign up for it here. ← That link actually gives you 45 days of free Canva Pro trial access, FYI.

And then, follow the steps shown in this video to design your Instagram bio link page with Canva.

Aside from the video, here are some important steps to the design process + notes:

Step 1: Log into Canva and create a new design

Assuming you already have a Canva account, log into your account and create a new design.

For the new design, search for “Bio Link Website.”

Step 2: Use a template

If you’re going to design a page from scratch, skip Step 2 and go directly to Step 3.

If, however, you’re not into designing things from scratch, no worries. There are plenty of bio link page templates. Simply click the one you like to apply to your design. Customize the elements and colors with your own branding. Then hyperlink the links. Done!

Step 3: Understand basic website principles for Canva

So, you’ve decided to design the page from scratch.

Cool!

First, understand the following things:

  1. Canva websites follow LTR (left-to-right) hierarchy in responsive designs. Meaning, when you design a page, the content on the left half of the page shows up first (on top) when viewing on a mobile device, and the content on the right half of the page shows up below that.
  2. Also, Canva websites ignore left and right margins when viewed from a mobile device. When designing, keep all elements within the margins.

Step 4: Draw some guides to help you during the design process

Go to “File” and click:

  • Show margins
  • Show rulers and guides

Then, draw some guides (click on the rulers, hold, then drag your mouse into the design, and let go where you want to drop the guide.)

I recommend drawing these guides:

  1. Along the top margin
  2. Along the bottom margin
  3. Along the left margin
  4. Along the right margin
  5. At the middle of the page
  6. One that splits the left rectangle into halves
  7. One that splits the right rectangle into halves

The design should look like this after you’re drawn these guides:

Step 5: Design the page

Design the page as you see fit. Remember that when you view the page on a mobile device, the content rearranges from left to right. So, whatever you put on the left half of the page will show at the top of the page on a mobile device, and the content on the right half of the page will show below that.

Step 6: Add hyperlinks

The whole point of creating this page is to add some links you want your followers to click. Typically, these are links that will create engagement and drive traffic to your email list opt-in pages, sales pages, etc.

To hyperlink:

  • Click a text box, or highlight a specific portion of some text, or click a graphic element — whatever it is you’re trying to hyperlink.
  • Then, click the link icon/button at the top bar
  • Insert the link
  • Click ‘Enter” on your keyboard
Add hyperlinks.

Step 7: Preview and then publish

When you’re done designing, make sure to preview the page to see if everything looks as it should.

When satisfied, click the “Publish as website” button. Follow the prompts until ready to share the link on your Instagram bio.

Make sure that the “Resize on mobile” option is checked. Otherwise, the page will not be responsive.
