Episode Summary
Some of you probably know that my father passed away not that long ago. Because I needed time to process, I focused on staying consistent on my blog — publishing a post per week since the blog is always my main focus — but slowed down on other platforms such as this podcast as well as my Canva template shop(s).
But when I slowed down, I noticed something else — especially in my Canva shops. For the entire month of June and July, I had created zero products, until my latest workbook template that I listed last week. All of this has made me realize something anew that I thought I understood, but this recent experience solidified what I already believed in — that consistency is key to growth for content creators.
So, in today’s podcast, I wanted to talk about consistency and the possible implications of the lack of it in your business.
To stress on consistency, I’ll share something from my personal experience. As I said earlier, I took a break from creating new Canva products throughout June and July. Which caused my sales to dwindle. In the beginning, it wasn’t so bad. June was fine, and the first half of July was also alright in terms of numbers. But then things slowed down. This was more pronounced on Etsy because I only started selling my templates on Etsy earlier this year.
Throughout the latter half of July, I only made a handful of sales on Etsy. And then through the first half of August, I made zero sales on that platform.
But then I designed a new Canva template last week, and as soon as I listed it, my sales shot up across all platforms! On my website, on Creative Market, as well as on Etsy. While I had zero sales on Etsy through the first half of August, since listing the new product I have been making one or two sales every single day!
This is a great example of what a lack of consistency does to your business. So, if you have an online shop, or a blog, or some other method of providing content or products to your audience, the first thing you need is a regular flow of new content and new products.
If you’re trying to grow your business but not seeing any traction, this is also the first question you should be asking yourself — Are you creating new and valuable content (or product) regularly? If not, that’s the first thing you’ll need to fix.
I hope today’s podcast gives you the motivation you need to write a new blog post or record a new podcast or video episode. Or, maybe create a new product for your shop!
