Maybe you want to start a blog, but you’re not sure if blogging is for you.
A ton of people start a blog every month, but they fail because they realize blogging is not for them. After all, blogging isn’t a get-rich-quick ticket to making millions a month, nor does to grow on its own. Blogging requires patience, persistence, and perseverance. It takes a lot of work.
And it takes a lot of writing!
More often than not, people stop blogging because they realize that they don’t like writing thousands of words every single week.
So, you think you want to start a blog but not sure if blogging is for you?
Then how about a test run?
If you think you may only like the idea of blogging and not the actual work, then try this:
Create an account on medium.com, and try publishing at least one article per week to see if you like writing consistently.
If you can put up with that for a couple of months and still enjoy doing it, then for sure, it’s time to take things up a notch and start your real blog, on your own platform. Need some help doing that? Worry not my friend! I have a FREE email course to help you start your blog!
But yeah, if you want a risk-free way to test out whether or not you really want to blog, Medium gives you a platform to test it out while making it enjoyable at the same time.
Do keep in mind though, that this is not about being a successful Medium writer. Because growing your audience on Medium requires a very different set of rules than growing your blog on your own platform. If you want to be a writer on Medium, there are resources out there to help you.
But as you know, here at The Side Blogger, I only recommend growing your blogging empire on a platform that you own. Medium, on the other hand, is a third party platform, and your success there depends very much on Medium’s whims (a.k.a. their algorithms. Yuck!)
So, this is not a podcast about how-to-be-successful-on-Medium, but it is about testing out your blogging potential on a platform that is easy to get started on, and risk-free without needing any financial investments or commitments to keep going.
As always, I’d love some feedback! Was this episode helpful? Do you write on Medium? Do you write there for fun or is it a significant part of your business? If you’re a beginner wanting to start a blog, do you think you’ll give Medium a test run before setting up your real blog? Let me know in the comments!
